Porcelain Fillings (Inlays/Onlays)
Cerec
Cerec fillings are custom designed, milled porcelain fillings, made in the surgery while you wait using CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/ Computer Aided Manufacture.
The tooth is prepared by removing old filling material or decay and a reflective powder is then sprayed into the tooth to prepare it for digital imaging.
An optical 3D image is acquired with a small camera, directly in your mouth.
The restoration is created on the screen using the image data.
Diamond coated instruments mill a ceramic block to reproduce the design.
The milled restoration is then polished and fitted using special bonding materials.
The porcelain used is bio-compatible, that is, it closely matches teeth in hardness and its response to everyday wear. It does not expand and contract as much as metal (amalgam fillings) so will not cause further damage to your teeth.
