Air Abrasion (sand blasting)
Air Abrasion
|
|
A computer controlled sandblaster for teeth, used to gently blow away decay painlessly.
Air abrasion has many advantages over rotary instrumentation. Many of the air abrasion procedures can be performed without anesthesia. It does not lead to microfracturing of the enamel. It is extremely conservative and can be tuned to remove only irreversibly demineralized tooth structure. It yields a structurally very sound cavity profile.
It can be utilized in conjunction with laser-fluorescence caries diagnostic equipment to detect occlusal pit and fissure decay at a very early stage, and to treat the lesion atraumatically.
It's capabilities and user-friendly attributes can't help but allow it to progress and its use to become more widespread in the dental profession.
